Decolonizing Knowledge

Beyond the Ivory Tower is the beginning of what we hope to be a living document where a larger community can have access to different forms of learning, not limited by traditional learning institutions or measures of knowledge. Our page will showcase people who have been expanding notions of knowledge-making. The larger purpose of our page is to give examples of how to take the act of learning from out of the sole ownership of universities or other learning institutions into their own hands.

This project is created in hopes of prompting the larger community to engage in their own way of analyzing their world.

In the current political climate, society is ushered to revere governing institutions as the only viable way of approaching,  sustaining, and validating life, inquiry, and knowledge. Beyond the Ivory Tower, we hope to put forth unknown, undervalued, excluded forms of knowing. Currently, we have the projects of a Harvard undergraduate sociology course: Research Lab: Equity through Inquiry.

The intention of Beyond the Ivory Tower is to not only show examples of these different ways of knowledge-making, but provide encouragement to those interested in helping their communities in their own ways.
